Joe Doe 'Hot Rod' Electric Guitar by Vintage ~ Silverburst with Case

    JDV22

    Out of stock

Two things you need to know about the Joe Doe Hot Rod guitar. One; unless you’re the owner, then admire the custom pinstriping, flash metallic sunburst and gleaming chrome hardware with your eyes and not your hands. Two; if you’re lucky enough to score one of these sweet Cali-mod-shop builds, be careful when plugging into your amplifier of choice. The Hot Rod has been supercharged to produce a sonic boom that will get all the dogs barking in your neighborhood! But if being seen and causing a scene is your bag, then this is the guitar for you. Every Joe Doe guitar comes with a unique origin story. So who was the inspiration behind the Joe Doe Hot Rod guitar? America’s original rebel rousers the Angelo twins - that’s who. The Story“Ask anyone in Parker, Pittsburg USA if they remember twins Bernie and Ernie Angelo and you’ll get a roll of the eyes, a cold shoulder, or worse, a door slammed in your face.  Bernie and Ernie were the original all American rebel rousers, waking up a sleepy 1950s town with rock and roll music, drag racing and cussing in public places.  Did they burn down the The Shores Acre High School gymnasium in summer 1959? Maybe. Were they the pair seen at midnight sawing the head off The Miner’s Memorial statue in the town square in ’62? We can never know for sure, but it is perhaps more than coincidence that when the twins finally left Parker for California in 1967 to follow their musical ambitions, the crime rate halved. Their departure was celebrated by the townsfolk with an impromptu street party but one resident was sad to see them go. Sheriff Brunot, whose police cells provided a concrete home from home for the boys on many occasions remarked; “Looking for stray dogs or stopping a DUI is one thing, but nothing got my pulse racing like chasing after those Angelo boys down main street, red lights blazing”.  Parker town’s loss was California’s gain as not only did Bernie and Ernie become early pioneers of SoCal surf rock, they ran an always in demand mod shop where regular mom and pop cars were pimped, pinstriped and powered up”. The Specs Body:Solid mahogany back with California wave inspired carved maple cap. Beautiful from any angle.Finished in dazzling 'Silverburst’ with Go Faster pinstripe decals. Pickups:Wilkinson WOCHB (bridge) / WOCHN (neck) double coils. Controls:2 Volume, 2 tone and 3 way selector. Hardware:Wilkinson GTB wrapover chrome bridge with fine tuning capability.Shiny chrome Wilkinson WJ15 tuners. Neck & Fingerboard:Mahogany neck with custom ‘Hot Rod Maniacs’ decal on rear.Genuine rosewood fingerboard with finger friendly 12” radius and mini dot inlays. Nut: GraphTech nut, as slippery as a tire with no treads. Case: Joe Doe luxury hardshell case with case candy. Certificate: Certificate of authenticity included. Limited Edition of 100 'Hot Rod' is an original Vintage® guitar, designed and created by Joe Doe Guitars and the UK Vintage design team.

If you’re in need of a bit of luck, then this Joe Doe Gambler might be the rabbit’s foot you’re looking for. Taking inspiration from neon buzzing, dollar guzzling casinos on the Las Vegas Strip, the Gambler sports custom decals, card suit inlays and doubles down with a genuine 10 dollar poker chip. Rub it for Luck! Whether you’re backing up a front man adorned with rhinestones or comping in a jazz club where the sun never sets, the Gambler provides all the charm and chops you need.  Like all Joe Doe Guitars, the Gambler comes with its own origin story and this one is no different. The Gambler is modelled after the guitar played and pawned numerous times by Las Vegas veteran/fugitive, Jack Tandy. The Story“If you’re lucky, you know Jack Tandy as the talented Nashville session guitarist who appeared on many popular country singles and radio jingles from the 1960’s and 70’s.  To those less fortunate, you know Tandy as a drunk and compulsive gambler who made more promises than he could keep and borrowed more money than he could ever pay back.  Tandy left his Nashville demons and debtors behind in December 1977 and headed West to hide out in sunny Las Vegas. After months of strumming on the backwater circuit, Tandy landed a permanent gig playing in the Flamingo Hotel house band where he lived rent free, had unlimited access to the all you can eat buffets and enjoyed a generous line of credit. Life was good for nearly twenty years until 13th January 1993, when FBI agents swarmed the hotel and arrested the entire hotel management. Tandy’s superiors were charged with murder, extortion and corruption of local officials and collectively sentenced to 594 years. Remarkably, Tandy walked free and started a new job (with a new identity) serenading newlyweds at the Quick Vows Chapel on Freemont street. To date he has helped thousands of couples come together and after each ceremony wishes them luck, knowing all too well they’ll need it later on in life.” The Specs Body:Double bound USA Alder body, chambered with custom arrow sound hole.Nicotine butterscotch yellow finish with ‘Rub For Luck’ custom decal.Front mounted Las Vegas Poker chip (To be removed in emergencies only). • Joe Doe 'Gas Jockey' Electric Guitar by Vintage

Joe Doe 'Gas Jockey' Electric Guitar by Vintage ~ Gas Pump Red with Case

    JDV34

    Out of stock

Sometimes you know how a guitar is going to sound just by looking at it. So what kind of noise do you expect from this Joe Doe Gas Jockey, with its classic 50’s car styling and gas pump colours? Rumbling low end? Muscular chug in the rhythm position? Screeching highs, like a teen blowing donuts in his dad’s ’59 Chevy El Camino in the grocery store car park? All that and more. So whether you choose the gas pump red or the sparkling gold sand model, the Joe Doe Gas Jockey sets up a musical expectation of thumping, humping and pumping rock n roll and delivers it with ease. So what’s the origin story behind the Joe Doe Gas Jockey? Well, it all began on a gas station forecourt in 1960… The StoryWally ‘Songman’ Saban is a living, breathing, human jukebox. Pull up into his New Jersey gas station on Fellowship Road and he’ll not only fill your car with gas, but will play any song you can think of on his electric guitar. How is it possible? Well, for the sixty three years Wally has worked on the station forecourt, he’s been accompanied by music from his AM radio playing Billboard hits of the day. He only needs to hear a song once before the notes become transcribed and etched into his musical DNA. There’s a weathered sign hanging over the entrance to the station - Challenge Wally for 5 dollars. If he can’t play your song, then gas is on him. Locals know not to take the bait but if you’re new to town, you’ll try your luck, suggest something obscure from the 70s... and end up 5 bucks worse off.  Wally has only lost the challenge once, when he failed to play a request from Loretta Marshall in 1982. She left with a free tank full of gas, and Wally got her number. They’ve been together ever since.   The Specs Body:Offset mahogany body finished in Gas Pump Red with white binding. Pickups:3 x Wilkinson WOCMHB mini-double coils.  Controls:Volume/Volume/Tone and 3-way selector. Hardware:Gold Wilkinson hardware; T.O.M bridge, WJ55 tuners. Neck & Fingerboard:Glued in maple neck for bright snappy tones with finger friendly 12” radius, 635mm scale length and 22 frets.Genuine rosewood fingerboard with pearloid block fret inlays. Joe Doe 'Lutetia' Bass Guitar by Vintage ~ Blueburst with Case

    JDV40

    Out of stock

Sure the Joe Doe Lutetia bass looks pretty, with its floral patterned front and cutesy leaf decals -  but don’t be fooled. This bass guitar is designed to rattle teeth and shake foundations.  Anyone who plays in a rock band knows the real power of music rests with the bass guitar and the kick drum. Take them away and all you’re left with is a vocalist flouncing around the stage looking for attention and a lead guitarist gurning out a familiar 12 bar blues solo. The Lutetia bass makes sure your sweaty, stage diving crowd not only hear the music, but feel it in their beer filled guts.   The Joe Doe Lutetia is an exact recreation of the bass played by Lutetia Seydoux, a mythic pioneer of all things punk. Take a look at her story below - you won’t find any of this on Wiki. The Story“Punk bass player and visionary artiste Lutetia Seydoux is Anti-establishment, Anti-fascist and some would say Anti-music judging by ’Salut’, her 38 second song of ear piercing screams accompanied by the smashing of Limoges 19th century fine china.  You find her music challenging? Well that’s the point, because the world needs people like Lutetia Seydoux otherwise rules are never broken and boundaries are never pushed. The best example of Lutetia’s avant grade approach to music was during her one woman show at the Alores Club, Paris in December 1987. Lutetia turned the gig on its head by throwing her bass guitar into the crowd and demanding that they should perform to her. A riot ensued, multiple arrests were made, and Lutetia felt satisfied that an important piece of performance art had been created. In 2003 Lutetia was invited to the Prix de la Culture ceremony to receive an award for her contributions to French music, but her expletive ridden acceptance speech meant the honour was quickly retracted (and regretted) by the event organisers.  Shame on them for trying to contain a true visionary. Vive la punk!”. The Specs Body:USA Alder body with floral pattern front, Blue Burst finish with tidy cream binding.  Pickups:Wilkinson WOPB / WOJB pickups mounted on transparent pick guard. Controls:Master Volume, 2 Tone and blend pot. Hardware:Gold Wilkinson hardware throughout - WBBC bridge, WJBL200 tuners.
