South Indian Tambura

The Tambura is a long neckedplucked lute made with a Jack-fruit Wood. This is a stringedinstrument. Tambura in South India usedas abackground while playing the Veena or in Carnatic Music, it hasno frets, as only the open strings are played as a harmonic accompaniment tothe other musicians. It has four or five wire strings, which are plucked oneafter another in a regular pattern to create a harmonic resonance on the basicnote.

Standard tunning of the Tamburain Carnatic Music is PA sa sa SA means if you want to tune yourTanpura on 'E' note, then 1st string 'B 'lower 2nd string 'E'natural, 3rd string 'E' natural 4th string 'E' lower.
